Do I always know what I'm going to create? Not quite. But that doesn’t stress me out anymore. It used to, because I worried too much about what others thought of my work. Does that mean I don’t care about their opinions? No. I still care, but it’s not what pushes me to create. It remains a background thought, rather than my main motivation. Thank goodness for that!
Intention is everything. It’s like the hum of an engine underneath the hood; it’s a truth, a desire to express what needs to come out.
For me, creating isn’t just a simple act. It’s a core part of who I am—a deep need to bring beauty and life into my world.
It feeds me more than anything else because it’s a key part of how I engage with life. My strong need to create helps ease any frustrations I might experience from everyday life. It reminds me that intention drives everything I do. Is that intention always pretty? Not at all. So don’t get the wrong idea. I turn a lot of what I’m feeling into colour, shape, and form.
True creation starts in the quiet moments before the work even begins. I don’t search for the right answer or a perfect outcome anymore. Instead, I let my curiosity lead the way. This keeps my efforts honest and grounded. When the goal is simply to express a truth, the outcome becomes a pleasant surprise rather than a demand.
Then there's the buzz, the obsession, and the butterflies that start when I see myself moving towards something unexpected.
And then I remember the intention.
It's an impulse to make manifest something from how I am feeling in the moment.
And that isn't always fluffiness. But doesn't beauty often emerge from difficulty?
